GPA (Grade Point Average) is a numerical measure of academic performance on a 5.0 scale in Pakistan's BISE system. A1 grade = 5 points, A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0, F = 0.
Add the grade points for all your subjects and divide by the number of subjects. For example, 5 subjects with grades A1(5), A(4), B(3), A(4), A1(5) = 21 / 5 = 4.2 GPA.
Most merit-based scholarships in Pakistan require a minimum GPA of 3.5 (Grade A) or above in matric. Top scholarships like PEEF require GPA 4.0+ (A1 in most subjects).
Yes, GPA 4.0 (Excellent) is very good. It corresponds to mostly A grades (70-79%) in subjects. GPA 4.5+ (Outstanding) means you are scoring A1 (80%+) in most subjects.
Percentage shows your exact score out of 100, while GPA is a standardised grade-point number on a 5.0 scale. Both are used in different contexts — percentages for college merit lists, GPA for some scholarships.
